We Are is the first song I finished after the release of Worlds Falling Apart.
It took me around 2 years to write again and throughout that time there were a lot of major changes in my life.
After moving to Berlin and completing audio school I started to look more into myself as a person and what I wanted from life.
There were a lot of things I carried around with me for as long as I could remember and these habits, insecurities and problems were slowly dragging me down into a bad place.
With the death of Chester Bennington, one of my biggest musical influences, I realised how important it was to address mental health as a cultural and personal topic. Much too often people neglect their own mental well-being or put it off as "a phase" or something similar.
People still see vulnerability, emotionality and sadness as a weakness and not as something everybody has and feels. This puts pressure on those suffering and pushes them further into isolation.
We Are is about that. It's an outcry of those people, a desperate plead for more compassion, love and empathy in a society that (still way too often) looks down on people with mental health issues.
lyrics
Verse 1:
I wasted all (of) my lifetime
On searching what I can't find
A remedy for your lost sight
To make you see through my eyes
Pre-Chorus:
When everybody's on their own
Our minds are left to drown
Can you tell me, what's the price for this?
Choking in our roles
Darkness claimes our homes tonight
Chorus:
We are the voice that cries
We are the heart that dies
Can anybody save us
Cause we have lost our fight
Drowning inside our regrets
Cannot escape our own heads
Won't anybody save us
Cause we will die tonight
Verse 2:
Your words have tightened the noose
Insensibilities' proof
Depression is a false friend
Cause this is a start not the end
Pre-Chorus:
When everybody's on their own
Our minds are left to drown
Can you tell me, what's the price for this?
Choking in our roles
Darkness claimes our homes tonight
Chorus:
We are the voice that cries
We are the heart that dies
Can anybody save us
Cause we have lost our fight
Drowning inside our regrets
Cannot escape our own heads
Won't anybody save us
Cause we will die tonight
Break:
We fight, we crie, we die.
